You've always wondered what goes on at daycare after you
drop off the kids. You wonder how your caregiver interacts with the
children. Well now you can peek in at anytime.......do the "surprise drop in"
that you've always wanted to do with out ever leaving your desk. Have a job
that doesn't give you computer access? Try giving your user name and
password to the grandparents or a favorite aunt, and have them check in
once in a while. As parents ourselves, we know how hard it can be to part
with your "babies" every morning. Knowing that you can see what happens at
daycare at any point in the day without the daycare knowing when you are
watching offers great peace of mind, and helps to ease some of the stress
associated with having to drop your "babies" off at daycare every day.
What will I be able to see on the webcams?
We have 3 webcams installed in our house. Two are upstairs: one is
pointed at the living room/main toy area, and one is pointed at the dining
room table, and the third is located in the lower level preschool room. You
should be able to view your children for most of the day, but there are times
during the day that we will not be in the view of the cameras. For instance,
the kitchen is not covered by the webcams at this time, some corners of the
rooms are not viewable due to the angle of the cameras, and also at this
time we do not have a webcam located outside viewing the play yard/deck.
This is something we would like to add in the future, if our budget allows.
Private nap rooms and the changing table/potty area are also not viewable.
While most of our active play and meal times will be viewable by the
webcams, please do not expect to be able to sit and watch your child's every
move, every minute of the day. The webcams are provided for peace of mind
and occasional "drop-in" viewing. Also, the webcams are for viewing only,
and do not have sound enabled. This is for two reasons --first, streaming
live video and audio is sometimes too much for many computers to handle,
and causes "shut-downs." Second, for privacy reasons.
Just a quick tid-bit of info: nap time is generally from about 12:30 to 3ish
(give or take).....if you are logging in during those times, you are not likely to
see much activity. The best times to check in and actually catch some play
time are between 8am and noon, then again after 3pm.
How do the webcams work?
When you become a Munchkin Manor Daycare family, you will be given a
user name and password that will allow you to securely log-in to our
webcams. This is to ensure that only authorized persons are viewing the
daycare webcams. The first time you log in, you will be prompted to
download ActiveX Control. If you do not download this, you will not be able to
see live streaming video. However, you should be able to see a still image
that is refreshed about every 10 seconds. When the camera viewing window
appears, it's default is set to capture a still image every 10 seconds and
automatically refresh itself as often. There is a button to click that allows you
to switch to streaming video at any time. Some employers may have security
settings on company computers that do not allow streaming video, but
usually doesn't affect the still images.
When will the webcams be available for viewing?
Webcams should be turned on and active during "normal" business hours
---something like 7:30 am to 6:00pm. If your child is dropped off at 6am or is
in evening care, the web-cams may or may not be turned on. Even though
we'd like to provide you with access to viewing your child as much as
possible, our family lives in the house as well. We'd like for our children and
our family to be able to be "free" from the webcams for at least part of the day.
Is there anything special I should know about the webcams?
The webcams are intended to give parents peace of mind and a secure
feeling about their choice in daycare. We just want to let parents know, as
kindly as possible, that the webcams are not intended to be an open door for
criticism, correction, and the like. While we value the opinions of parents
tremendously, and we want parents to come to us with any valid concerns,
we want to admonish you to please be careful in how you are viewing what
goes on here on a daily basis. We have a very freestyle, family routine
planned, and will do our very best to meet the needs of each child in our
care. With these webcams, we are opening our home and our activities to
you in a way that many providers would never do. Please don't use it as a
means for petty complaints ---things like "maybe you should have......" or
"there is a better way to do such and such....." You may not realize what other
circumstances may be involved , and there is more than one way to do many
things. So if our way isn't necessarily your way, but it's not hurting anybody,
please keep an open mind...........Please don't let this little "caution"
discourage you from coming to us with any valid concerns or questions. We
do want to work together with you to provide the best care possible for your
child.
The webcams will only work properly when using Internet Explorer. If you are using another browser such as Firefox, the streaming video may not display properly. The first time you log in, you will be prompted to download ActiveX Control. If you do not download this, you will not be able to see live streaming video.
